Peanuts and peanut butter are some of America's favorite foods. They are also the pride of Georgia and former President and Mrs. Carter. The Plain's Peanut Festival is an annual event held during harvest season to celebrate peanuts- a delicious and nutritious food. Recently, the good news about the health benefits of peanuts has reached consumers and health professionals across America and around the world. Research generated by The Peanut Institute is showing that including peanuts and peanut butter in your daily diet can help reduce the risk of heart disease as well as provide many nutrients needed in a healthy diet.
The third annual Plains Peanut Festival Recipe Contest will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2002, in Plains, Georgia, during the festivities.
The categories include:
- Snacks and Appetizers
- Salads and Main Dishes
- Breads and Muffins
- Sweets and Desserts
First, second and third place awards will be given in each category and will be based on:
- Flavor and Eating Quality
- Texture or Consistency
- Appearance
Recipes should contain:
- Recipe Name and Category
- Recipe List (must include peanuts or peanut butter) and Amount
- Recipe Directions (methods, times, temperatures)
- Recipe Directions (presentation, total yield, serving size)
- At least one cup of peanut product (peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oil, etc.)
Prizes awarded:
- 1st Place in each category - $150 Cash
- 2nd Place in each category - $100 Cash
- 3rd Place in each category - $75 Cash
- $250 Grand Prize Awarded for Overall Competition
- $100 Special Recognition for most "Nut-ritious" Peanut Recipe
